Killing your boredom one place at a time

“Singapore is so boring. There is nothing to do here.”

You would have probably heard that several times in your life if you have been living in Singapore.

Hence, three innovative friends decided to come together and put the best places to chill out and have fun in Singapore all under one roof at www.chillax.sg.

“We got the inspiration because we had no idea what to do on the weekends and it’s such a hassle to find new places,” said Jared Leong, 23, the founder of Chillax.sg.

The TP Business alumnus who is currently an undergraduate in NUS also added  “we thought we could create a one-stop site where you’ll be able to find a place to go to immediately.”

Based on three easy steps: ‘What’, ‘Who’ and ‘When’, this nifty site helps users to find new places to visit and things to do around Singapore through just a few clicks of a mouse.

Categories such as ‘Girls outing’, ‘Date’ and‘Indoor’ or ‘Outdoor’ activities coupled with filters for the users specific budget and location assists in keeping the searches more refined and precise to achieve the users’ ideal results.

While there may be numerous competitors in the same field, the trio is confident of their site and says that their site-personalisation helps to set them apart from the others.

“When you surf HungryGoWhere, for example, there are 97 pages of restaurants. It’s too much trouble to look through every page to find a place,” explained Nicholas Lai, 23, PR manager of Chillax.sg.

“Hence, our 3 step planner will solve it and give a personal touch to our users,” added the TP Communications and Media Management alumnus.

The site also features write-ups and pictures personally written and taken by the 3 owners of Chillax.sg as well as tips on how to get to the places, thus increasing the interactivity and ‘human touch’ aspect of the site.

Several plans to improve the site such as adding local gigs to the list of activities are already on the boys minds while they look forward to clinching a grant from SPRING Singapore – an agency under the Ministry of Trade and Industry responsible for helping Singapore enterprises grow.

However, things have not been always this smooth sailing for the trio, citing difference of opinions as well as site crashes during the developmental stage of the site.

Nevertheless, the boys always managed to pull through, owing it to their strong bonds fostered over their 15 years of friendship.

“Whenever we have a disagreement, we will call for a meeting and solve everything on the day itself. We will pick up where we left off and try to get things fixed,” explained Daniel Wong, 23, assistant business manager of Chillax.sg as well as a TP Mechatronics alumnus.

“There were a lot of hiccups and disagreements during the development of this project. But the main point is just to persevere, believe in yourself and never give up,“ Jared said, breaking into a smile.
